[re'dʒone]1) (gen) region, (fig : zona) area, region2) (istituzione) administrative unitSee:Cultural note: regione The Regione is the biggest administrative unit in Italy. Each of the 20 Regioni consists of a variable number of "Province", which in turn are subdivided into "Comuni". Each of the regions has a "capoluogo", its chief province (for example, Florence is the chief province of the region of Tuscany). Five regions have special status and wider powers: Val d'Aosta, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige, Sicily and Sardinia. A Regione is run by the "Giunta regionale", which is elected by the "Consiglio regionale"; both are presided over by a "Presidente". 17 Côtes du Rhone
Major French vineyard. The Côtes du Rhône vineyard runs for over 200 kilometres down the Rhone valley from the south of Lyons to the Camargue. Within the region, there are a number of prestigious smaller areas such as Côte Rotie (in the northern part of the region), Hermitage or Chateauneuf du Pape (near Avignon). The vast majority of Côtes du Rhône wine is sold under the generic appellations, "Côtes du Rhône" or "Côtes du Rhone Villages". Côtes du Rhône wines are blended from several different grape varieties, including most notably Viognier, Syrah, and Grenache. Price-wise, Côtes du Rhône are often at the cheaper end of the "appellation contrôlée" range.Dictionnaire Français-Anglais. Agriculture Biologique > Côtes du Rhone
